Volunteer Park Host Opportunity – Mount Fernie Provincial Park
The Volunteer Park Host Program is a hospitality service to park visitors. The role of the host is to enhance visitor services and to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for park visitors. By greeting park visitors and providing them with information about things to do in the park and surrounding area, volunteer park hosts offer an important service.
Mount Fernie Provincial Park has limited volunteer host opportunities for June through September each year.
Hosting duties consist of:
Although specific duties may vary, hosts are expected to perform the following basic duties.
- greeting visitors to Mt Fernie Provincial Park and providing information about the park and the surrounding area;
- keeping their provided campsite clean and orderly;
- helping staff with a variety of small projects/tasks; and,
- reporting into the park staff on a scheduled basis.
These duties leave many hours for the hosts to enjoy hiking, exploring, wildlife viewing, photography, and other outdoor activities. Mountain biking is exceptionally popular in this area.
Hosts will be provided with a campsite to stay in while in the park, as well as the use of a communications system to permit regular check in. Unfortunately none of the campsites at Mt Fernie offer power, water or sewer hookups.
