Cowichan River Park Management Planning
BC Parks is in the process of developing a management plan for Cowichan River Provincial Park.
Management Planning Schedule
Stage 1: Initial Planning and Project Plan Approval (completed)
Stage 2: Development of the Draft Management Plan (current)
As part of the development of a Draft Management Plan for Cowichan River Park, the public, interest groups, commercial operators and adjacent land owners will have the opportunity to participate and provide input through a variety of ways, including information sessions, stakeholder meetings, and internet-based comment forms. First Nations consultation and input from local and regional governments will also form a key component in the development of a Management Plan for the park.
To commence this information gathering, an initial public comment period was held from April 3 to July 15, 2018. A summary of the comments received is provided below. BC Parks appreciates the initial input submitted at this phase in the development of the Draft Management Plan for Cowichan River Park.
To support the development of the Draft Management Plan, BC Parks engaged the services of a consultant to prepare a Background Report on Cowichan River Park. The consultant researched and compiled existing information on the history and values of the park, including biodiversity and natural heritage values, cultural values, and recreational values, as well as information on research activities, adjacent land uses, and projected impacts of climate change on park values.
Stage 3: Draft Management Plan public review and comment
Stage 4: Development of the Final Approved Management Plan
